This is my first blog from Costa Rica!! Kirstin and I arrived after a looong day yesterday to San Jose. After finally arriving at our hostel, we were all ready for a well deserved sleep, but as it turns out, our window backs onto a busy street and also what sounds like a dog kennel. Thank god for earplugs.
This morning we left early to visit the Museo Nacional, the National Museum in San Jose. If anyone has the chance, it is well worth the $4! They have an indoor butterfly garden and an impressive collection of pre-Colombian artefacts. The building was previously used as the military barracks, but after Costa Rica abolished their army in 1948, it has since been converted into a museum.
After visiting the museum, we walked around and visited the Mercado Centrale (central market), which was crazy busy because it is Saturday. It feels so good to be back in Costa Rica, the people, the food and the weather are amazing. I'm constantly being reminded why I love this country even if I'm only in stinky, loud San Jose for the moment. Tomorrow we head out for Tortuguero at 6:00 in the morning, then onto training for turtle monitoring. Until then, adios!
